"I might go to the pig to pick up a chicken."
Really, that is a quote from my dad. Yesterday we were at my parents house and a classic Midwest storm swept through. The power went out and we all ended up sitting in the living room talking. My dad was referencing going to the Piggly Wiggly (Wisconsin grocery store) to pick up a rotisserie chicken for dinner since there was no power. I was surprised he didn't suggest making tin foil dinners and throw them on a bonfire. Of course we started talking distant family gossip and Bill pointed out this is what happens when you don't have T.V. It was very refreshing to not have Blue's Clues on and the hustle and bustle of preparing dinner. It was funny hearing my mom tell the girls "Now you have to play with toys or read books." since the movie they were watching went off with the power. It also made me reflect on the fact that it is really easy to just throw on a movie and the kids are occupied.
Earlier in the day my mom and I picked strawberries. This is a non stop thing during these last days of June. My parents have the best strawberry patch and it is ever producing for about 3 weeks straight. The girls were swimming in the hot tub with Grandpa watching. My mom and I could see the hot tub from the strawberry patch and we saw Campbell get in but no James and Grandpa. My mom started yelling because Campbell can't swim. I had just been reminding my dad that Campbell has a little fire in her, she's fiery, he calls her a pistol. Then we see my dad walk over to the hot tub with his long strides, reach in a grab a Campbell out with one arm and set her down. She was reprimanded. Then the girls spent about 2 hours swimming.
We just love going to Grandma and Grandpa's house!
