Warning! Shocking pictures.

They have to come out. They have been causing problems long enough. Isn't that just a beautiful picture!(not really) Campbell has been having issues with her tonsils for months. I think it all started when we were at Boundary Waters in August, she got a really bad cold and one night she couldn't breath for a little while (me: freaking out, Bill: telling me not to yell because I might wake other people up. Uh, ya think? Sorry but my daughter, excuse me, our daughter, isn't breathing!) Then in September she had strep 3 times. Twice diagnosed by the pediatrician, then she was still sick after the second round of antibiotics and I just didn't want to pay that doctor anymore money, so we waited it out. About every month since then she has gotten sick (but nobody else in the family got what she had). She gets fevers that come and go, and her tonsils are bigger then these (picture above). She usually has a hard time eating solid food for about 3 days. And she has some sleep apnea. Long story.

We went to a Pediatric ENT yesterday. He told us another contributing factor is that since she is so slender there isn't much room in the back of her throat for her tonsils, and since they have gotten infected so much that makes them get bigger. She could grow out of them, when she's 20. He also demonstrated, by plugging her nose with his fingers and having her speak, that there is no air flowing through her nose. Complete mouth breather. My biggest concern has always been that she isn't getting enough oxygen. She just got the genetic grab bag, skinny little body and huge tonsils. The surgery is scheduled for February 29th but they are trying to get an earlier time. We'll keep you updated.

After I had my tonsils out AT 18! I have been soooo much healthier. I wish they had done it years and years earlier and saved me all those nasty bouts of tonsilitis, colds, and strep throat. Good luck with it! She'll heal quickly because kids are amazingly resilient.

Yeah!!! Finally getting them out! I think she'll enjoy life much more. I need to call you...I've been working non-stop and it is killing me and I get home late at night and see that you have called...sorry I haven't called you back.

Oh! Poor little baby! I've had friends get their tonsils removed as adults and the recovery is wretched. I've heard the little ones bounce back quickly. Good luck!

Annika says,"That open mouth Mommy." "Oh, yeah, whose mouth is it?"
"My mouth."
"No."
"Papa's mouth."
"Papa's mouth?"
"I just kidding Mommy."
