James the Knight

The finished castle! James remembered that we were related (way way back) to a king of England, so she wanted to build one of his castles. We did some research and found a Welsh castle that King Edward the First had built by an architect named Master James of St. George. How fitting for us to recreate it for James' project. The castle is named Caernarfon Castle and building began in 1283. The girls had so much fun building (mostly assisting Mom and Dad) and painting the castle. I should add that to become a knight they had to: do a book report, build a castle, do 1 hour of service for someone not in your family and earn their Cardinal for 5 days in a row. James volunteered at the YMCA for her service project. She was great at scrubbing down lockers and drinking fountains.

They made lots of fun hats at school to go with this subject.
Here is James in her Knight helmet.

And of course Taite had to try it on.

James in her hennin.

And Taite in the hennin.
